Nusa Penida or Nusa Lembongan: which island suits you?

Penida is bigger, wilder and more dramatic. The viewpoints are spectacular, but the roads are steep and the driving distances real. Two full days is a sensible minimum.

Lembongan is compact and relaxed. You can circle it on a scooter in a morning, and the mangroves, Devil's Tear and beach clubs make for an easy overnight.

For snorkeling, both islands access the same reefs — Manta Point, Gamat Bay and Crystal Bay — and many trips depart from either.

If you have three days, do both: cross to Lembongan, take the local shuttle to Penida, and return to Sanur from Toya Pakeh.
